The Walled Gardens
Church Gardens consists of three acres of C17th walled gardens, including a Kitchen Garden, Orchard and rare Arcaded Wall. The derelict state of the gardens gave Kay and Patrick an almost completely blank canvas to work on and they gained inspiration for the project by visiting gardens up and down the country. The Kitchen Garden is a fascinating patchwork of specially designed garden features including 56 geometrically arranged organic vegetable beds, 60m herbaceous borders, fruit cage, vine mount, auricula theatre & pumpkin patch. The orchard is the largest of the walled gardens and it is believed to be the remains of a Renaissance Pleasure Garden making it, historically, the most important part of the garden. The Orchard contains The Arcaded Wall, a wall comprising of 33 identical niches, the function of which remains a fascinating historical mystery!
The Kitchen Garden
Auricula Theatre
The Auricula Theatre was constructed in 2019 using salvaged wood, pots & tiles. Auriculas are one of Kay's favourite plants and she has always been fascinated by this unique method of exhibiting them, originating from the C18th.
