About the Event

Join Kay McHugh, the gardener and owner of Church Gardens, for a guided tour that offers visitors an opportunity to discover the story behind these remarkable gardens. Kay will provide insights into the creation of the gardens, weaving together the history and tales of their family's dedicated restoration journey. She will also explain her naturalistic approach to gardening, highlighting methods that boost biodiversity and enrich soil health, resulting in abundant organic harvests.

 

During the tour, Kay will share the wealth of knowledge she has gained over 30 years of practising sustainable gardening. Visitors will learn about companion planting and edible forest gardening, both integral to Kay's approach. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore many unique features in the gardens, many of which have been crafted using recycled materials. Kay will describe how together with Patrick, they conceive and develop these ideas, adding character and sustainability to Church Gardens.

 

Whether you are a regular visitor or discovering Church Gardens for the first time, Kay's guided tour promises to be engaging and inspiring, offering something of interest to everyone.


Please arrive 15 minutes before the Guided Tour is due to start. The Tour begins at 11 am and will run for 1 hour.


You are very welcome to explore the gardens again after your Guided Tour once the gardens have opened to the public at noon. The Tea Room will also open at 12pm so you can enjoy some refreshments. Lunch is served from 12 - 3pm and there is a variety of drinks and homemade cakes available throughout the afternoon. The gardens and Tea Room close at 5pm.
