We go out for the day, to celebrate the twin's birthday, for a very expensive guided tour of Highgrove - this is lovely but not quite as impressive as I was expecting. There are lots of hedges and trees - areas divided into rooms and it felt quite cold and shady in places. Rather like Laskett was before Roy Strong recently extensively renovated the garden, I feel the Highgrove garden might be feeling quite closed in, in places. They mentioned a problem with field bindweed (the same as us) in their kitchen garden but I couldn't understand why with 9 full time gardeners and 2 part time and 3 with responsibility for the Kitchen garden they had not just pulled it out! Anyway, it was amazing to see the garden in reality rather than just in a book, we had a delicious lunch and returned home.
