Today is the day that Aideen's dissertation needs to be handed in. She has written it on producing a new edition of Debussy's Danses for harp and strings. This is a virtuosic harp piece originally written for chromatic harp which is fiendishly difficult to play on a normal pedal harp. Her dissertation outlines some ingenious ways to practise and perform this piece. The day before submission she realises that she will also have to submit an actual copy of her own edition - not easy to produce! Poor Aideen is now quite stressed and I remain with her to reassure her that everything is ok. The dissertation finally departs digitally ( I find this very hard to get my head around) and even sending it is stressful. Whatever happened to handing something in? Not surprisingly, the garden received scant attention today!
