I do manage to get a reasonable amount done today. After deadheading the dahlias I start weeding a brassica bed. This is a little tricky, as the Californian poppies have all now self seeded and it is difficult to sort out what is a weed and what is a self seeded poppy. When you take out some weeds, the bed doesn't really look weeded, because of all of the seedling flowers. I'm also rather nervous of leaving too much cleared ground, because I think it's too tempting for our 'digging night visitors'. I pick six sweetcorn for dinner and that night we eat a chill chicken casserole, which is cooked in my homegrown passata with borlotti beans, onions, garlic, chillies, courgettes and peppers all from the garden. It also contains mushrooms and is served with brown rice, the inevitable sweetcorn and a garden salad of red and yellow mim tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, radish and basil. We have this dinner when we get back from our Philharmonic rehearsal, Patrick comments it's a very large dinner and I do wonder, can you have too much healthy food?
