A lazy day
Today is even hotter than yesterday, every day is the hottest day of the year so far and today will reach 33 degrees!! In the morning Meave helps me with the watering so we can go to Nik’s garden centre together. This is the first time I’ve been to the garden centre since before lockdown, the first time I’ve driven since March and only the 4th time I’ve left Church Gardens! This is a much more exciting trip than visiting a brickyard and I have to resist behaving like a child in a sweet shop. It was lovely to see Nik and his wife, but sad to hear how difficult this time has been for them. They are a lovely couple who work so hard, they deserve to do well and I’m relieved they have managed to survive this crisis so far.
Today is really too hot for gardening and I do little except water things as they start to look desperate. Later in the day, I dead head the polytunnel sweet peas and I then plant out some more containers that make up the children garden (in front of the mock Tudor playhouse). Really, all I want to do today is go in the pool or have a sleep, but somehow the day still fills up and I finish the evening with my normal watering routine. At the beginning of the day Patrick had said we would have a storm and therefore rain, but the weather report later in the day was no rain until Saturday, so no ‘night off’ watering yet!
