Harefield's Secret Gardens

Church Gardens is a hidden gem situated on the outskirts of Harefield village. The walled gardens have been drawn back from the brink of dereliction by Kay and Patrick McHugh, who first discovered them in 1995. For over 25 years, the family have devoted all of their spare time to restoring the gardens, resulting in an inspiring transformation which is now accessible to the public on Sunday afternoons throughout the gardening season.

Explore the Gardens

Church Gardens consists of three acres of C17th walled gardens. The Kitchen Garden is a patchwork of beautifully designed garden features including 56 geometrically arranged organic vegetable beds. The orchard is the largest of the walled gardens and it is believed to be the remains of a Renaissance Pleasure Garden.

The Kitchen Garden

The heart of the garden

Almost completely restored, the Kitchen Garden is made up of 56 vegetable beds, fruit cage, pumpkin patch, polytunnel, vine-mount, auricula theatre & 60m long herbaceous borders.

The Orchard

A piece of history

The orchard is surrounded by C17th walls, but the arcaded wall which is made up of 33 identical niches is particularly unique.  Recent additions to the orchard include a large wildlife pond and stream, forest garden & bee hives.

The most recent addition to the garden is Aideen's Cut Flower Garden where flowers for bouquets and pressed flower art are grown.
